As our Vice President of Medical Affairs, Gustavo A. Suarez Zambrano, M.D. is the most senior medical authority for the company and oversees all Medical Affairs activities in North America. He has almost 20 years of combined experience in clinical neurology and pharmaceutical medical affairs. After practicing as a general neurologist for more than 10 years, he has held various medical positions within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
In his previous role, Dr. Suarez Zambrano was Lead Medical Director, U.S. Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, at Novartis, focusing on multiple sclerosis (MS). He also has held senior medical positions at four additional biotech and pharmaceutical companies. In these roles, he was responsible for overseeing multiple phase two, three and four studies in the U.S. and globally and supported product launches for treatments addressing neurological conditions including MS, spasticity and movement disorders.
Prior to Dr. Suarez Zambrano’s experience in corporate medical affairs positions, he completed his two-year post-doctorate research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston focusing on MS and demyelinating diseases. He also spent seven years practicing as a general neurologist in Bogota, Colombia, where he oversaw the Neurology Clinic for the Red Cross and led his own private practice. He also was the lead author and co-author for several peer reviewed publications in the U.S. covering MS, cerebral palsy, stroke and spasticity.
Dr. Suarez Zambrano is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and holds a Doctorate degree, specializing in Neurology.
